In the first year of study, a fledgling Filidh (known as a Fochlac) would study Ogham, grammar, and tales only. No poetry was involved. In the second year of the Mac Fiurmedh, the knowledge base was built upon a study of Ogham, introductory poetry and more tales. The third year of study covered Ogham, philosophy, poetry, and advanced grammar. At the completion of this study, one was considered a “Dos”.
