At Raphoe village, in County Donegal in Ireland, there is a great bronze statue on the green, titled “Earth Mother” by Maurice Harron. It depicts a pre-Celtic or druidic woman facing the North, where her shadow at midday falls on a rock in front of her. Her hands form a diamond or rhombus shape which projects onto the rock, like a symbol of fertility in homage to the nearby Beltany stone circle, named from the Bealtaine ceremonies which take place there.
