Mis of the Wild People

There are many legends of wild people in the woods, mainly written around the 12th century but from older sources, such as An Buile Shuibhne (The Mad Sweeney), who was cursed to wandering naked and living in trees. Merlin’s madness and his life as a wild man of the woods (from Vita Merlini by Geoffrey of Monmouth), Myrddin Wylt’s wandering in the company of beasts (from Middle Welsh poetry) and Lailoken, madman and prophet who lived in the forest (from Vita Kentigerni).
